Band Day

Hey Band!

Band Day is always the first Saturday of the school year. In 2019, that’s Saturday, September 7th!
This is the band and colorguard’s most important fundraiser of the year.
It’s a full day of fun in the sun, going door-to-door, under parent driver supervision, asking Sprague-area families for donations. Band Day raises money that supports the program year-round. It’s extremely important!

Here are the general guidelines – Check the posts and your email for the specific information:

  • All band members are required to participate, even those who aren’t in the competitive marching band!!
  • Call time is 8:00 am.
  • Arrive ready to put on your band uniform. Non-marching band members will be issued a band shirt.
  • What to wear under your uniform.
    • … your show shirt.
    • … lightweight shorts or leggings (to wear under your uniform)
    • … black socks and marching shoes (not tennis shoes)
  • If you don’t have marching shoes yet, a dark shoe suitable for lots of walking is fine.
  • We will not be wearing shakos.
  • Hats (use good judgement when selecting!) and sunglasses are allowed but please remove them when asking for donations.

Once you are in uniform there will be a brief meeting with your student leaders. Listen carefully because they will have some important tips and information for you.

Sign up sheets are available during band camp, or (for non-marchers) in class on the first day of school.

Drivers will accompany their groups as you go door-to-door on assigned routes.

Water bottles, snacks, and lunch are provided. You will return to the band room by 5:00 pm.

Band Day requires lots of parents to volunteer as drivers and sector houses.  All volunteers need need to be cleared with the Salem-Keizer school district. That means you need to apply as a school district volunteer (click on the link). Drivers also need to provide proof of insurance.

The SK District Volunteer Application form is now available online! This takes about a month to clear, so make sure you send in the volunteer form early!

Note: School district employees do not need to apply as a volunteer, you’re already approved.
